Code of Conduct
New York Harriers (“Harriers”) is a welcoming and inclusive organization. We expect all members shall adhere to our Code of Conduct (“Code”).
ACT WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT
Harriers are considerate of fellow club members, volunteers, opponents, and participants at all events, including workouts, races, and social activities. Harriers behave in a manner that is respectful to others and supports our community’s safety and inclusivity.
SPEAK POSITIVELY
Harriers respect the age, religion, ethnic background, gender, ability, and sexual orientation of all other members. Negative or derogatory language that disparages the differences or backgrounds of individual members or communities will not be tolerated. Discrimination and unwanted or continued advances toward other members of the team will not be accepted. All Harriers have the right to an environment free from all forms of discrimination, including sexual harassment.
HONOR THE RULES OF COMPETITION
Harriers uphold the rules of competition, including refraining from illegal, unethical, or impermissible practices related to training, coaching, and racing. Harriers are committed to following all rules of competition for every event, including rules pertaining to bib transfers, following course regulations, banditing, and respecting race facilities.
CELEBRATE ONE ANOTHER
Harriers celebrate one another’s accomplishments and acknowledge the efforts of other members and non-members, both in person and across all digital platforms.
BE RESPONSIBLE TO OTHERS
Harriers should report violations of the Code of Conduct to the Board. The Board will take the greatest care to evaluate the violation and determine an appropriate response, including possible removal from the team by majority vote of the Board.
